Every once in a while passion, desire and enthusiasm win out over sensibility, fear, and rationale. Effectively quieting the voice that says, "be careful" or "are you sure you can do that?" or "is that financially feasible?" etc. It is exactly these emotions that tend to drive us out of our comfort zone and sometimes inspire us to do things that may seem difficult or challenging. This is the emotion behind Celebration of the Drum 2.

What began as a cool idea quickly became a living, breathing thing that took on a life of it’s own. So many people got involved and sort of rolled along with it that it would be hard to list them all and to properly thank them. Most importantly though, is you, the attendee of this event. For supporting this event by attending, supporting these causes and most of all supporting the art of drumming in the general sense.

There is no feeling quite like that of breaking a sweat laying down the perfect groove, or playing that favorite conga pattern or drum fill. Or a well placed shaker part. A drum line playing together in the "zone". The simple pleasure of listening to a great rhythm played by human beings. You see drummers, more than any other instrumentalist, tend to "stick" together. Why is that? I think it’s because of that passion for rhythm in general that brings us together and inspires us to inspire each other. To share ideas and lay aside ego or the fear of getting one’s bag of tricks stolen. In short, drummers are part of a sort of rhythmic fraternity and that’s as it should be. This is the idea behind Celebration of the Drum 2.

Finally, it is so inspiring to see drummers from all over come together to support these causes that help people in need. These simple acts of kindness go a long way towards healing us as a nation. This is the reason behind Celebration of the Drum 2.

So enjoy this Veteran’s Day show and remember that without our Veterans and our Soldiers fighting to protect our freedom, we would not be here enjoying the art of drumming. Hug a Veteran today!

My heartfelt gratitude goes out to all of the corporate sponsors, workers, stagehands, sales reps., sound technicians, drum technicians, food servers and performers that helped put this crazy thing together. And most of all thank you for being part of the world of drumming.

Give the drummer some!………….

Sincerely,

Paul Militello,

President, R.I.T. Music
